Ancient Makkura ceramic beads from Sri Lanka.

Origin: Sri Lanka, Goadakwela.

 

This ancient ceramic beads comes from gem gravels in Sri Lanka. Makkura is belived to be an ancient race that was specialist in all things gem oriente, including making beads of glass, clay (ceramic) and gemstones. It is belived that they were offerings to the spirits for good luck in mining and were thrown in to old mines. Probarly also used as jewelry.

According to the experts the materials could be dated to periods within the first to twelfth cenury AD. Collector items.
